ST-Ericsson and Nokia declared a long-term partnership to work in collaboration in the technology of TD-SCDMA which is a 3G standard developed by China Mobile, China’s largest cellular operator. This new partnership will give Chinese user a better user experience in coming years. As per the agreement, ST-Ericsson will act a key supplier of chipset platforms of Nokia for it Symbian based TD-SCDMA devices and solutions. ST-Ericsson is a joint venture between Ericsson and STMicroelectronics.
"TD-SCDMA is a core part of our strategy to deliver the best mobile user experience to Chinese people," said Heikki Koivu, Vice President, TD-SCDMA, Nokia. "Based on Symbian, TD-SCDMA will be enriched by the mature Symbian ecosystem, its devices, services and solutions. At the same time, TD-SCDMA will offer Symbian ecosystem partners more opportunities in the future."
